Dying Light - a film about dementia

A SHORT FILM FROM A PRIZEWINNING STORY BY DAPHNE DE JONG

poster

The short film Dying Light was produced by Robin Murphy Productions and directed by Patricia Robins from a prizewinning short story, also entitled Dying Light, which I wrote as Daphne de Jong. This story won the 1981 Katherine Mansfield BNZ/NZWW short story award.

The film is 12 minutes long.

Robin has received a lot of interest in the film from Alzheimer's caregivers, and as a result she promoted it at a health professionals' conference in Christchurch, and has taken a number of orders for the video version as an educational tool.

She says:

The most rewarding aspect of attending the conference was the caregivers and health professionals who watched the tape and laughed and cried right from the first image as they identified with and recognised their own experiences.
